During the course students examine how philosophical analysis can give deepness to a movie called Matrix and how to apply philosophical theories to understand the movie. Students were using Synergeia web-based learning environment in supporting their collaboration.

Etu-Töölö Upper Secondary School in Helsinki had courses in environmental philosophy and social philosophy using progressive inquiry. Studying was based on the pupils’ own problems. They thought about a preliminary hypothesis for the problems and then began to surf the internet for information and to compare the theories they found with their own hypothesis. They also commented about each other’s research throughout. he courses sought to practice a scientific research approach and information development in a network environment. Initially, the pupils collected what they considered as being key problems and questions relating to the topic. We then grouped these together and the pupils chose their own problem and started to research it, either on their own or in a group.

The project was focusing on history, the Empire of Rome in Ancient time. During the project students examine how the picture of the world developed and how the society was organised in the Emipre of Rome. The work was organised according the pedagogical model of progressive inquiry. Students were using Synergeia web-based learning environment supporting their collaborative work.
